A Luxurious Mas Torroella Wedding near Barcelona Spain
In the heart of Catalonia, Emma & Oscar gathered with their closest family and friends at this extraordinary venue that is full of history and renowned for its stunning beauty. Set in the hills and forests in between Barcelona and Girona, Mas Torroella is an incredible location to celebrate. So much so that it consistently ranks in our top lists of Barcelona wedding venues.
We have always focused on capturing real, natural moments with our couples, Emma & Oscar made it easy. They are two of the most genuine, honest and beautiful people, and their Mas Torroella wedding was one of the most genuine, honest and beautiful we have photographed. A ceremony celebration in the ruins at the back of the property, photos in the hills and forest, a beautiful outdoor dinner and an epic party under the lights. The entire time surrounded by the love of their family and friends and the natural beauty of the Catalonian countryside.
If you’re planning your own Mas Torroella Wedding here are a few quick tips from us:
1. Do everything on-site. Mas Torroella is blessed with an abundance of beauty, facilities and a nearby town to service everything. There is no need to go anywhere else on the wedding day, so by keeping the ceremony, cocktails, reception, dinner and party all on site you can save a lot of time and truly enjoy your wedding. This is the option that Emma & Oscar went with and we think it worked out perfectly for them. Every event on their wedding day flowed seamlessly into the next giving them the ability to simply enjoy it rather than focus on travel and logistics.
2. Book a pre or post wedding session. The venue itself has a lot of variety, but there are some incredible locations in the surrounding area as well. It usually doesn’t make sense to go too far from Mas Torroella on your wedding day, but the day before or after is a great opportunity to explore. We went with Emma & Oscar the day after their wedding to explore the adorable little town of Calella de Palafrugell with its isolated Mediterranean beaches and we got some of the best photos we have ever taken. A pre or post wedding session is always on our list of recommendations.
3. Enjoy a late ceremony. If you’re getting married during the typical wedding season in Spain (Spring through Autumn) then a late afternoon/early evening ceremony is a great choice. You can sleep in late, relax and get ready at your own pace, and enjoy the cooler weather of the late day. This also gives you the option to have a little sunset photo session while your guests can enjoy the most beautiful time of the day together.
4. Bring your hiking shoes, and your bike. Mas Torrella is situated in one of the most idyllic locations you will ever see. Nestled in the hills and surrounded by gorgeous forests, hiking trails abound and are accessible by simply walking out the front gate. Mountain bikers can bring their bike right out to the venue and explore the abundant trails any time. If you’re a road cyclist then you can travel some incredible and famous routes in the surrounding areas, we’ve even seen some wedding guests ride directly from Barcelona!
A little bit about Mas Torroella
A 14th century manor nestled in the Catalan hills, the house has been tastefully and impeccably restored over the years to modern luxury. It boasts a gorgeous outdoor pool, numerous terraces and gardens, private spa including Finnish style sauna, tennis court and a gym.
The main house has three floors with 10 fully equipped suites accommodating up to 28 guests. Add the Caseta, a smaller cottage house on the property with two full suites, and you can accommodate up to 6 additional guests. The venue can host up to 250 for your ceremony (standing room only), but most weddings here have a guest list of around 60-150. There is no curfew at Mas Torroella because of its private location which means you can party as late and as loud as you (or your guests) want.
Mas Torroella Wedding FAQ’s:
How far is the venue from Barcelona?
Mas Torroella is just a 1.5 hour drive from the very heart of Barcelona city, and the views along the way are truly incredible. The venue is beautifully isolated in the forest but still easily accessible by car.
Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but what happens if we get rain?
There are a lot of practical options if, in the incredibly rare case, the weather turns bad. From huge outdoor tent set ups to the stunning interior rooms of the main house there are more than enough options to take care of you and your guests.
What is the max capacity for a Mas Torroella wedding?
Mas Torroella is a versatile venue whether you’re having a small intimate wedding or a huge party with all of your family and friends. The maximum capacity is 250 (standing room only), but most weddings here range from around 60 to 150 guests. In our opinion, somewhere around 60 to 100 is the perfect number.
Mas Torroella has an abundance of beautiful locations for your ceremony, but the most popular is “The Ruins” which is located at the back of the property. We had the privilege of photographing the first ever wedding at this gorgeous location, this one you’re looking at right now, and as you can tell it did not disappoint!
The Ruins is actually the remnants of one of the ancient buildings on the property which has been renovated to create a dedicated ceremony location. It has all the modern amenities that you want, surrounded by ancient stone walls. With its unique look and incredible views of the Mediterranean sea, the ruins has become the location for most Mas Torroella wedding ceremonies.
Just because The Ruins is popular doesn’t mean it’s the only option. We have seen beautiful ceremonies in the various garden locations, in the spacious main room of the house itself, as well as in the private forest locations on the property. No matter what your style, there is definitely a ceremony location for you.
Mas Torroella Wedding Photos
There are so many places to take photos right on the property, and they all offer something unique and beautiful. At Emma & Oscar’s wedding we took full advantage of this. We started off by taking some fun photos with the entire wedding party in the fields behind the house. The coloured smoke flares that Emma brought added a ton of fun for the wedding party.
After photos with their wedding party we took Emma & Oscar back to The Ruins to take in the views of the Mediterranean, followed by a walk through some of the trails around the back of the property to one of the private forested areas.
This is one of our favourite parts of the day, not only because we get to really be creative and make some beautiful photos, but because of the special moments that we see during these times. Emma & Oscar, like many couples, were a little tired by this time of the day and they were happy to take some time for themselves.
We maintain our philosophy of authentic candid photography even during portrait sessions by giving our couples some space. Taking a step back, letting you be together and enjoy the location with each other is one of our secrets to getting authentic, natural photos.
Beautiful light and Wedding Receptions at Mas Torroella
Working with challenging lighting conditions is one of the skills we have developed over 13 years of photographing weddings, but it’s always a nice bonus when the lighting is easily beautiful. Since we focus on real, authentic and candid moments in our photography it really simplifies things when we can work so easily after dark, and we love capturing these atmospheric night time photos for our couples. Not to mention it creates a beautiful atmosphere for you and your guests to enjoy.
We’ve photographed at hundreds of venues all around the world and we can tell you that this is one of those rare gems that is just as beautiful at night as it is during the day. The lighting set ups create such a fun and welcoming atmosphere that you can’t help but enjoy it. Mas Torroella wedding parties are some of our absolute favourite.
Emma & Oscar invited us to celebrate and document the most important day of their lives with their closest family and friends and we couldn’t have been more honoured to be there. Aside from capturing some of the most beautiful photos we have ever taken, we simply loved working with this amazing couple.
After we delivered the final photos of their wedding, Emma & Oscar had the following kind words to say about us:
“If you’re looking for a photographer stop your search now – Dallas and Sabrina are the best you’ll find!
I spent months trawling through different photographer’s profiles and countless blogs in the hunt for the perfect person to capture our day but fell in love instantly with Dallas and Sabrina’s style, which looks straight out of a high-end magazine or glossy table photo-book.
My husband and I both work in television production and care a lot about aesthetics but we also aren’t the best posers, so wanted photographers who would take amazing candid shots that would capture the essence of the day as well as being able to put us at ease during our couple shoots. After meeting with Dallas and Sabrina on zoom we didn’t hesitate to book this amazing husband+wife duo, both as our wedding photographers and for a couples shoot the day after.
There’s always some nervousness that comes with booking your wedding suppliers, as you always worry that you won’t know what you’re going to get until the day. However, Dallas and Sabrina were an absolute joy from our first interaction! They came to visit our venue with us the day before the wedding and we instantly got on – they’re the most easy-going, friendly and awesome people ever and we felt relaxed with them from the offset.
Like most brides I was quite distracted on my wedding day worrying about all the things that needed to happen but Sabrina (who photographed me whilst I was getting ready) was so warm and calm I felt completely at ease. This was the theme for the whole day – with Dallas and Sabrina gliding through the day almost unnoticed and yet there to capture every moment and make all of our guests feel comfortable, with the upmost professionalism.
When it came to our couple wedding photos it really felt like we were all one big creative team and their enthusiasm for the photos really gave us that needed confidence boost to get stuck in and leave all awkwardness at the door. This was the same the following day when we had our post-wedding couple shoot. They drove us around having already discovered some awesome locations to shoot in, bought us a couple of beers and encouraged us to have fun with it, which we really really did!
We received a little sneak peak preview after our wedding and we’re absolutely blown away, but none more so than when we received the gallery links for both shoots. When I say that these photos are stunning, breathtaking, emotional, gorgeous… I mean, no words actually seem to do them justice. Not only will we be able to grow old now looking back on these photos where for two days we looked like absolute models/rockstars etc, but we have gorgeous photos of all of our friends and family and every moment of our day (including the ones we missed) captured in stunning detail.
Dallas, Sabrina… from the bottom of both of our hearts, thank you!! These photographs have made us more happy than we could ever explain!
